Okay, mates. Yer Captain is veering off from the usual political doomsday stuff to warn you about a calamity that is about to affect not only our world but the entire solar system.
While cruising a reliable news source, the Captain came across a report from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
The article explains how, as a sun-like star grows older it puffs up into a gas giant, which eventually envelops and eats up the planets orbiting it.
The news article reported just such an event occurred in our own galaxy 10,000-15,000 years ago in the direction of the constellation Aquila.
The phenomenon was observed in 2020 by the California Institute of Technology’s Palomar Observatory; the data was reviewed by scientists at MIT and the hungry star was confirmed.
Scientists go on to posit that this same fate will eventually befall most stars and their orbiting planets, including the Earth.
In about 5 billion years!
