Mates, you’ll be happy to discover the Captain will not be writing about tariffs today.
Okay, maybe just a little bit.
To catch you up.
After last week’s tariffs debacle, the President announced a “pause” on the extreme tariffs he was proposing.
As a result, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rebounded generously, gaining back some $5 trillion dollars in value.
Republicans crowed, “Biggest one day gain in history!”
Actually, it’s not.
Maybe the third biggest.
But I won’t split hairs.
What they failed to admit was the Dow had already lost $11 trillion due to the President’s tariffs proposal.
So we’re still about $6 trillion short of where we were when all this started.
But again today, the Dow bounced around a bit and finally landed at 40,524.79.
Headlines declared, “Dow Jumps 300 Points!”
But, again, pay attention here.
The Dow started the day at 40,546.15.
Sure, it's nice to see it all in "green" today.
But that’s actually a total loss of 21.36 points.
As before, they took the day’s lowest point (40,240.53) and then started counting.
In reality the Dow lost 300+ points before it gained 300+ points.
In case you haven’t noticed, we are being manipulated.
Every damn minute of every damn day!
But that’s not what’s on the Captain’s heart this day.
A grave injustice has occurred and no one seems to care.
Kilmar Abrego Garcia was picked up and deported to the extreme Center for Terrorism Confinement (CECOT) in El Salvador where the President is sending immigrants he doesn’t like.
No hearing. No trial. If you look the part, you go away. Bye-bye.
Mr. Garcia is from El Salvador, so he looks the part.
CAPTAIN’S NOTE: CECOT is a black hole. Living conditions are reportedly horrible, intentionally inhumane. No one leaves there alive. And the U.S. is reportedly paying El Salvador $6,000,000 per year to take who we send.
Of note, Mr. Garcia did enter the U.S. illegally, but has lived in Maryland for ten years. He is married and has three children, one a son with special needs. He has no criminal record either in the U.S. or in El Salvador.
In 2019 he was accused of being an M-13 gang member.
That accusation was based on the fact he was wearing a Chicago Bulls hat and jersey, and an unsubstantiated allegation that he was a part of the New York arm of M-13.
Mr. Garcia has never lived in New York and denies any affiliation with the gang.
An immigration judge back then noted Mr. Garcia should not be deported back to El Salvador, where his life was in potential danger from gangs.
Nonetheless, on March 15th he was illegally picked up and quickly shipped off to CECOT.
A lawyer for the Department of Justice admitted an administrative mistaken had been made.
He has since been relieved of duty.
U.S. District Judge Paula Xinis was the first to weigh in: an injustice has been done. The government needs to “facilitate and effectuate” the return of Mr. Garcia to the U.S. by midnight on April 7th.
The White House appealed.
CAPTAIN’S NOTE: WTF!?! It was already acknowledged that this was a mistake. Everyone knows Mr. Garcia should not be in prison in El Salvador (or anywhere else for that matter)! But instead of working to bring him home, the White House is looking for reasons to leave him there!
The 4th Circuit Court of Appeals agreed with Judge Xinis.
The White House then appealed to the Supreme Court, hoping for a more favorable (to them) ruling.
The Chief Justice stayed the lower court ruling until the case could be heard.
But in a rare unanimous decision, the Supreme Court sided with Judge Xinis.
Did I mention it was UNANIMOUS?
But SCOTUS said the courts could not hold the government to the original timeline.
Because that date passed while they were diddling around!
AND, they want Judge Xinis to define exactly what she means by “effectuate”.
After all, the President is ultimately responsible for "foreign affairs".
CAPTAIN’S NOTE: This should not fall into the realm of “foreign affairs”. They fucked up! Get a damned plane, fly to El Salvador, and bring Mr. Garcia home!
How is that so damned difficult!?!
Initially, the President said he would abide by the Supreme Court’s decision.
In the meantime, his DOJ filed more appeals.
As of this writing, Mr. Garcia is still incarcerated.
We are told, without proof, that he is still alive.
Which brings us to today. The president of El Salvador, Nayib Bukele, came to
pay a visit tribute homage to Trumpf, his benefactor and partner in crime.
Yer Captain suspects they talked a great deal about Tariffs.
But I’m not going there.
When asked by the press about Mr. Garcia - who was not on the plane (but should have been!), President Bukele replied, “We’re not fond of releasing terrorists.”
Okay, wait. Time out!
Were you not paying attention?
There is no evidence that Mr. Garcia is
a criminal or a terrorist in either the u.s.
or in el salvador!
But as expected (because the Captain’s expectations of him are as low as humanly possible), the U.S. President added his own twist of the knife directed at the reporters: “They’d love to have a criminal released into our country. These are sick people!”
So we’re not abiding by the Supreme Court’s UNANIMOUS decision then?
WTF!
And we’re again calling Mr. Garcia a terrorist? Without proof? Without a trial?
WTF!!!
Attorney General Pam Bondi shrugged it off: “That’s up for El Salvador if they want to return him. That’s not up to us.”
WTF!?!
CAPTAIN'S NOTE: Is she saying the President of the United States of America is not powerful enough to get a prisoner released from an El Salvador prison? One that we are paying for? You might want to re-think that excuse.
Not to be outdone, Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller added acid to the wound: If Garcia is returned to the U.S., he would be sent back a second time.
Double WTF!!!
Mates, yer Captain is completely fed up with the whole lot of ‘em!
An innocent man, who believed he was safe living in the United States of America, is now sitting in one of the worst prisons in the world while our government officials dismiss him as a terrorist and wash their hands of this unimaginable travesty of justice!
CAPTAIN'S NOTE: An independent assessment of the men the U.S. has sent to CECOT reveals that 75% of them have no criminal history!
No, Mr. President, this is not how you make America great again!
In fact, Americans everywhere should be terrified now.
If a government regime like this can simply pick up Kilmar Abrego Garcia off the streets and deport him without cause, without a warrant, without a hearing or trial, then no one is safe.
Say his name. Kilmar Abrego Garcia.
Mates, don’t assume the color of your skin will save you.
Don’t assume your U.S. citizenship will save you.
Don't assume even your red MAGA hat will save you.
The current regime occupying the White House is heartless, totally devoid of all compassion or empathy.
They have run rough-shod over a spineless Congress.
And now they are openly defying the Supreme Court.
No one is safe.
