Indiana has spoken! The future has been cast.
With the endorsement of former Indiana god basketball
coach Bobby Knight and the lesser god former Notre Dame football coach
Lou Holtz, Donald Trump (OMFG!) now stands alone atop the Republican Party.
Sadly, Holtz’s endorsement read like this: “The main reason I’m endorsing him is I’ve
played his golf courses, I’ve stayed in his hotels, he does nothing but go
first class in everything.”
The MAIN REASON…!
Mates, the Captain cannot make this shit up!
A poor showing in the Hoosier state convinced Ted Cruz and
John Kasich they could not catch Trump (OMFG!), and despite their previous
promises to stay in to the end, they bowed out.
So now, for all intents and purposes, it is Trump (OMFG!) – who
has no political experience, who is personally abrasive, who is at odds
with most of the major issues the Republican Party stands for – who now leads the Republican Party and will shape
the Party’s future!
This is the guy who might get to select the next Supreme
Court justice – Judge Judy, anyone? – and who will have his finger on the
nuclear button.
A shipmate told me today washed-out candidate Dr. Ben Carson
has been put in charge of finding a Vice President running mate for Trump.
Oh, please Lord, let him pull a “Dick Cheney” and nominate
himself! Oh please, oh please, oh please!
But in an aside, Carson suggested Ted Cruz would make a good
Supreme Court justice...
Yes, “Lyin’ Ted Cruz”, as Trump (OMFG!) refers to him, who recently
declared that the Bible trumps (omfg) the U.S. Constitution when it comes to
law...
Lest you forget, it is also Trump (OMFG!) whom Arianna
Huffington (and so many others) constantly reminds us, “…regularly incites political violence and is a serial liar, rampant
xenophobe, racist, misogynist and birther who has repeatedly pledged to ban all
Muslims – 1.6 billion members of an entire religion – from entering the U.S.”
And, to back up these claims, it is Trump (OMFG!) who has
more endorsements from White Supremacists that from leaders of the Republican
Party.
The two former presidents Bush have both said they will not
support him. Speaker of the House Paul Ryan has not committed his support yet.
Former presidential candidate and Senator John McCain has said he will not
support him, and worries that he might lose his seat in the Senate if Trump
(OMFG!) is the Republican candidate at the top of the ticket. The Koch brothers
(and other deep pockets) have indicated they will not bankroll him.
Even the Evangelicals who hitched their wagon to Cruz’s
campaign are lamenting now, unable to stomach supporting Trump (OMFG!), the guy
who says his favorite book of the Bible is “Two Corinthians”, but unwilling to go on record as voting for a Democrat.
So will they vote for the Democrat candidate?
Maybe. Maybe not.
Hillary Clinton carries a lot of baggage with her from a
long political career as a lawyer, former First Lady, Senator, and Secretary of
State. She has been raked over the coals for the Benghazi attack – yet 21
separate inquiries have turned up nothing incriminating – and is currently
being probed by the FBI regarding the use of her private cell phone for official
business (again, no wrongdoing has been found).
And, as Trump (OMFG!) has pointed out, she is a woman.
The Captain’s prognostication is that if Clinton is elected,
we will have at least four more years of Congressional stonewalling and
obstruction, not to mention a rise in sexism at least equal to the overt racism
we have experienced the past eight years.
We’re already seeing the latter on the campaign trail, this from
the Trump (OMFG!) camp:
When did this become acceptable?
But if Bernie Sanders is elected, his economic idealism will be
crushed by a Congress beholden to the special interests against which he has
railed throughout the primary campaign.
Frankly, I fear for his health if he is
elected President.
Some are calling for the Republican Party to put forth
another candidate – a third-party candidate, so to speak. But this is almost
logistically impossible at this point, and they know it would all but assure a
split vote and a Democrat in the White House for another four years.
So Party Chairman Reince Priebus, who also despises Trump
(OMFG!) but loves his paycheck, is calling for the Republican Party to fall in
line – even though the candidate is revolting and will most likely destroy the
Party – as well as its majority hold over the Senate and the House.
In fact, Priebus promises that as we go forward toward the
general election, the candidate will tone down his racist talk.
Because after all, it’s all about the tone, right?
As difficult as the choices may seem - this year more so than in the recent past - the Captain still encourages all my shipmates and friends to get informed about the issues and the candidates and vote!
True dat!
