Three years in the making, it is finally happening.
We’re getting new carpet!
Our last move was somewhat unexpected and poorly timed. We had
already planned a family vacation – more than a year in advance.
It just happened to correspond with “Moving Day”, the day
all the (designated moving) preachers in the denomination pack up and go.
So we asked to be allowed to move into the parsonage ahead
of schedule.
The house was previously rented, but good timing all around made
it available ahead of Moving Day.
But the Church wanted to repaint the interior and have new
carpet installed first.
Captain’s Note:
At one point there was four different types of carpet in the house.
When I mentioned our planned vacation, the response was, “Good!
That gives us an extra week to get it ready!”
No! No! No! We had to be out of the other house on Moving
Day and had no place to store our stuff for two weeks.
Not to mention two cats and a saltwater aquarium!
After some careful negotiations – and showing proof of the quality
of parsonage renovation work we do – we were allowed to move in ahead of schedule.
I agreed to paint the interior and we would address the flooring later.
The renters had small children and pets, so the Church was
kind enough to hire someone to shampoo the carpet first.
It was still wet three days later!
We painted walls and installed bamboo hardwood flooring in
key areas.
That left the living room, guest room, and office still with carpet.
More than half the house.
We had been reluctant to unpack everything knowing that one
day those areas would have to be completely cleared out.
The past week has felt like we were packing up to move
again!
Captain’s Note: We’re
not. Yay!
But right now the garage and dining room are filled to
capacity; the cats are locked away in the bedroom.
Not happy kitties, but they've got each other!
And the carpet is being laid even as I write this.
All of this is but a temporary inconvenience. When the
carpet if finished, we will be able to unpack in earnest.
And life will get back to normal…
…until I get permission to tear out / renovate the bathroom!
